WELCOME FRIENDS & SUPPORTERS OF COMMUNITY MEDIA!
Tonight we celebrate two very special events in San Francisco -
The Cable Channel 29 Youth Media Festival & local commemorations of
National Media & Democracy Week.
With this inaugural youth film festival presented on local cable television, Access SF enters a new era of great possibilities for managing public access resources in our great City. We're honored to mark this (18) original hours of programming that includes 140+ youth films and videos, crossing all genres of expression & presentation. At Access SF, we call this the effective use of our community owned distribution channels - an unprecedented bringing together of youth voices and youth related story telling from our region & beyond. Notably, such content now reaches into 215,000 households across all neighborhoods in the City & County of San Francisco.
Special thanks to the following agencies that have served as underwriters, sponsors and co-presenters the 2005 Youth Media Festival
Underwriter: Jewish Vocational Service (JVS) - www.jvs.org
The mission of JVS is to bring people and work together. JVS strengthens the Bay Area community by helping people, particularly those with barriers to employment, acquire the skills and resources to find and keep meaningful employment and progress towards the goal of self-sufficiency. JVS was founded in 1973 to aid recent college graduates who were having trouble finding employment. Over the years the programs have expanded to address the barriers faced by others groups including individuals transitioning from welfare-to-work, refugees resettling in the San Francisco area, adults and youth with disabilities. Each year, the agency places over 1,100 job seekers into jobs, helping them reduce these barriers and achieve their employment goals. Since 1992, JVS has worked with over 3,500 youth with disabilities in San Francisco to prepare them for successful work lives through job readiness training, job placement assistance and office technology training programs. JVS has received local and national recognition for its leadership role in workforce development. The agency received the 2001 Chase Manhattan Award for Excellence in Workforce Development and was profiled by Public Private Ventures and the Rockefeller Foundation for its work in engaging employers to improve employment outcomes for disadvantaged individuals.
