Your Own Live TV Show!
SF Live is the easiest way to host a regular series at Access SF. This single-camera studio enables any Access SF member to have their own 22-minute weekly or semi-weekly live program on Channel 76, with minimal equipment training. In a media age when content is almost exclusively controlled by huge corporations, SF Live provides an affordable, accessible outlet for San Francisco residents and organizations to present their ideas, politics, concerns, news, culture, art, and more on local television.
The Access SF Flash Studio supports live call-ins. The studio is also equipped to play video clips on VHS, SVHS, mini-DV and DVCAM formats, and to play music from a CD. The set accommodates up to four people. To have a regular weekly or bi-weekly show you will have to attend an Orientation, become an Access SF Member and attend a training session. Slots are available on a first come, first served basis.
How to Get Started
- Attend an Access SF Orientation.
- Become an Access SF Member.
- Submit a SF Live Series Request Form at the front desk (PDF). When you submit this form, you should have a good idea of what your show will be about.
- When a time slot becomes available, the SF Live Coordinator will schedule you for a required two-hour training session in the Flash studio (cost is $25). You should come to this training ready to do a practice version of your first show. After you've completed the training, the SF Live coordinator will confirm the first date of your series.
- Get ready to go live! Make sure you have read and understand the SF Live policies (PDF). If you have any questions, contact the SF Live Coordinator. If you want to record the show (which we recommend), bring a DVCAM, VHS/S-VHS or mini-DV tape. Confirm the date and time with any guests, and assure that they arrive at least 30 minutes before your show starts so they can be ready to enter the studio when you do.
- Promote your show! Let your friends, family, and colleagues know what time you’ll be live, especially if you are accepting calls. A few ideas can be posting flyers around town, creating a website (can be done for free on MySpace and other social-networking sites), or starting a blog (can be done for free on a number of sites such as www.blogger.com).
